Since I didn't want to pay out the nose for a new motherboard I took it to a fairly reputable unofficial service. The computer was not under warranty and as a matter of protocol official service people will not repair any faults. This caused a malfunction of the charging port and the computer would not charge (the battery status would be "battery is not charging") but it would get enough power to run off the mains. (Someone knocked over a glass of water in a cafe, it was an accident). Recently due to events outside my control my MacBook Air 2015 came into contact with water.
